“Loggerhead sea turtles, a threatened species, nest from May 1 through October 31 along Rookery Bay Research Reserve’s 110,000 acres, which stretch from Keewaydin Island through the Western Everglades and encompass 40 percent of Collier County’s coastline. Friends of Rookery Bay funds sea turtle interns and program supplies such as cages to protect turtle eggs and hatchlings from predators. People or companies who adopt a nest get a tag on a cage acknowledging their support.”
