Friends and neighbors,
My fantasy football team has already taken a hit—RIP Ekeler—but I’m excited to follow the season closely. That also means thinking about the best spots to watch the game, whether you’re rooting for a specific team or just want good vibes. I’ve rounded up my picks for the top spots to watch football.
On the food front, Slice Shop is worth the hype. Crispy, foldable NY-style slices that live up to their NY slice descriptors. Just don’t check the receipt—you’re worth it!
Get out, grab a slice, catch a game, and enjoy. And if you’ve got family visiting, Dana can help with accommodations; just give her a call at (239) 397-0929.
Stay hungry,

Does Naples Finally have NY-Style pizza?

New restaurants in Naples always get a wave of hype, and I’m usually skeptical. But for the past month, I kept hearing about the new Slice Shop on 5th Avenue. Having lived in New York, I’m picky about my pizza, and I’ve yet to find a true NY slice here. The buzz (Long Island owners, specialty flavors, and a cheese slice you could actually fold…) had me curious.
Run by Rob and Nicole Guercio, Slice Shop keeps it simple: a by-the-slice counter with thin NY-style slices and square Sicilian pies. The dough is crispier than many Naples options, and the rotating specials like Stracciatella, Vodka, Chicken Parm, Buffalo Chicken, and “The Portnoy” are delicious options. Most slices are $6.50–$9, and you can eat in their casual spot or take it to go. They also have salads, pastas, and sandwiches, which friends have come to try on repeat visits.
The hype is real: the thin slices fold perfectly, just like in New York. The plain cheese is crispy and balanced, and the Grandma Vodka is creamy and satisfying. Booch and Stracciatella slices are indulgent, though if hot honey isn’t your thing, stick to the Stracciatella.
A couple of things to note: it can get crowded, and some might balk at a $7-9 slice, even if it’s gourmet. The entrance is on the Cambier Park side, not 5th Avenue.
Overall, Slice Shop gives Naples a true NY-style option. It won’t replace all your local favorites—like Twisted Sheep or LowBrow Pizza & Beer, which I’ve written about before—but for a casual lunch or dinner downtown, I welcome the addition to the Naples pizza scene. They’re open until 10 PM (likely midnight during the season), making it perfect for a late dinner or midnight snack. Go before the lines get even longer.
Slices to Try:
Thin NY Cheese – Classic foldable slice, as close to an authentic NY slice.
The Booch – Square pizza with vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, stracciatella, pepperoni cups, and hot honey
Grandma Vodka – A creamy and tangy square slice.
The Portnoy – Extra crispy slice with fresh mozzarella and basil, with a drizzle of EVOO.
Stracciatella Slice – An Indulgent slice that is a step up from the classic cheese.

Poll Results: Sandwich Favorites
Last week’s poll asked: It’s lunchtime in Naples, which sandwich spot are you hitting?
Here’s where you landed:

Grouper & Chips - “Been going to G &C for ages…great food, good service.” – M.J.
Larry’s Lunchbox - “Can't beat their pastrami sandwich!” – D.D.
“Primo Hoagies is better than all those listed, except (arguably) Neapolitan Gourmet.” – M.K.
High praise for Primo Hoagies—I’m excited to try them out. Other recommendations poured in, and you added Dylan’s Drafthouse, Jack’s Seafood Bar & Grill, Rumba, and Nunzio’s as your go-to spots. Thank you for all your responses!
This Week’s Poll: Sports Bar Favorites?
Fellow readers: Which sports bar are you hitting up for NFL Sundays?
Why It Matters
Choosing where to eat, watch, and stay costs time and money. Slice Shop looks worth the price, even for a seven-to-nine-dollar slice, but it can get crowded, so timing matters.
The sports bar guide helps you avoid guesswork, from Jack's 2 projectors and 43 TVs to Dylan's over 100 beers on tap, which reduces the risk of a bad game day.
Until next time,
